Jenkins to DL; Tracy Recalled

Geoff Jenkins left the game versus the Dodgers on Friday early, very early.

He beat out a base hit up the third base line for an infield single and didn’t seem to come up lame right after the play. He then tried to break up a double play at second base and still looked somewhat ‘ok.’

Manager Charlie Manuel decided to remove Jenkins from the game in the top of the fourth inning in favor of Jayson Werth. Jenkins left with a right hip flexor strain and has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Jenkins said he did feel something awkward after running out the infield single in the bottom of the third inning and then definitely knew something was wrong when he was forced out at second base on a double play ball off the bat of catcher Chris Coste.

Taking Jenkins place in the outfield will be Werth, who was seeing the majority of playing time out there anyway due to Jenkins’ continued struggles offensively.

Jenkins’ spot on the roster will be taken by Triple-A first baseman Andy Tracy. Tracy was batting .288 with 21 homeruns and 84 RBIs in 120 games with the IronPigs.

Jenkins will miss at least the 15 days that he has to spend on the disabled list but could miss more time if he can’t get his leg to heal before that time has expired.

Jenkins has the fourth longest streak of most regular season games played without a playoff appearance out of all the active players in the league today. He has played in 1,342 games without making the post-season.
