Off the DL and Into the Box Score

Published by Jim Vassallo at 4:31 pm under Games Edit This

Pedro Feliz came off the disabled list earlier this week and made an instant splash on Sunday night, off the bench.

Feliz did not start against the Dodgers Hiroki Kuroda but did come off the bench to help tie the game and then win it in the 11th inning.

The Phillies were down 2-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth against fill-in closer Jonathan Broxton when Shane Victorino singled, was advanced to second on a bunt, and then was singled home by pinch-hitter Pedro Feliz.

Feliz remained in the game at third base, where Greg Dobbs originally started.

It was Broxton’s second blown save as Takashi Saito’s fill-in and his seventh overall blown save of the season.

Chad Durbin avoided disaster in the top of the 10th after he loaded the bases with nobody out and proceeded to get Casey Blake to ground into a 5-2 double play and then picked up the final out of the inning on a harmless flyout.

Then came the bottom of the 11th.

Victorino led off with a hustle double to Manny in left field and the Phillies had the winning run at third base with two outs in the inning when it was time for Feliz to come to the plate again with Victorino at third and Coste at second via a walk.

Feliz proceeded to hit a Jason Johnson fastball to left centerfield that just made it over the wall for a three-run walkoff homerun.

The Phillies are now .5 games out of first place behind the New York Mets.
