A Thriller!!!!
What a thriller that was in South Philly last night!!
The Phillies and Mets went at it in game one of a two game set last night at Citizens Bank Park.
Early in the game the Mets took a 7-0 lead on the Phillies, 6 of those runs coming off of starter Jamie Moyer. It was the first time in 15 starts that Moyer allowed more than 3 earned runs.
Pedro Martinez went for the Mets and as usual he hit a wall in the fifth inning. He allowed four runs in the fifth on two two-run homeruns. One from Jimmy Rollins and one from Ryan Howard.
Reliever Clay Condrey led off the inning with a double and was followed by the Rollins long ball.
Rollins went 5 for 7 with 3 RBIs in the 8-7 come from behind win.
The Phils tied it in the ninth with two outs on an Eric Bruntlett pinch hit double to score Werth from first.
They won it in the 13th with a bases loaded single to centerfield off the bat of Chris Coste. Coste, who came off the bench in the 8th inning, went 4 for 4 with that one RBI.
The teams go at it again tonight in Philly as Kyle Kendrick takes on Johan Santana at 7:05 pm.
The Phillies are now .5 games ahead of the Mets in the NL East and look to sweep the brief two game set tonight and move 1.5 ahead of the Mets in the division.
