Hamels Does It Again
Team ace Cole Hamels did it again last night for the Phillies.
In need of a win to keep pace with the Mets in the East and coming off a tough 7-4 loss to the Nationals on Labor Day, Hamels pitched yet another gem.
He went 7.1 innings, allowing five hits, striking out six, and didn’t give up a run.
Hamels dominated the Nationals from start to finish in the Phillies 4-0 win, which kept the Phils 2 games behind the Mets in the East, and left it up to the bullpen to finish out the game.
Closer Brad Lidge came on in the ninth in a non-save situation.
He allowed a leadoff triple to outfielder Lastings Milledge but then proceeded to retire the next three batters in order to preserve the shutout.
In save situations Lidge has been perfect in 2008, 32 for 32.
The Phillies will look to take two of three from the Nationals tonight in Washington.
Joe Blanton goes for the Phillies against Odalis Perez for the Nationals.
