2 Games Back

The Phillies and Mets began a crucial three game series at Shea Stadium on Friday.

Entering the day the Mets were three games ahead of the Phillies for the division lead in the National League East and were looking to carry their hot streak over into the Phillies series.

The Phillies got on the board early in the game with an RBI groundout and led the majority of the night 1-0.

Starter Brett Myers was masterful on Friday night, showing glimpses of his dominant stuff from a year ago.

Myers threw eight shutout innings, allowing only three hits while striking out 10. He lowered his 2008 ERA to 4.19.

Brad Lidge came on in the ninth and recorded his 34th save in as many chances with the Phillies in 2008.

Greg Dobbs added a two run homerun in the seventh to put the Phillies up 3-0 and the team never looked back.

They are now 2 games out of first. Saturday’s game was rained out due to Tropical Storm Hanna and will be made up as part of a double header on Sunday.

Jamie Moyer will face Pedro Martinez in game one and Cole Hamels will face Johan Santana in game two.
