An Off Day
The Phillies, after clinching a spot in the NLCS for the first time since 1993, have an off day on Monday before returning to practice on Tuesday in preparation for their best of seven match-up with the Dodgers.
The Phillies will most certainly be working on offensive production the next few days after a lackluster performance at the plate in the first two games of the series against the Brewers.
Pitching has been the dominant factor for the Phillies in this year’s postseason; both the starting rotation and the bullpen have made major contributions.
Ryan Howard and Chase Utley need to figure out how to hit the baseball when it matters most, Carlos Ruiz needs to learn how to lay down a bunt and Pedro Feliz needs to learn to take the first pitch of an at-bat with the bases loaded and no one out when your team is down 4-1 in a playoff game.
Greg Dobbs has contributed offensively, so has Jimmy Rollins, Jayson Werth and Shane Victorino.
Pat Burrell finally woke up on Sunday; hitting the two biggest homeruns of his career to date.
The Phillies will need all hands on deck offensively to outslug the hot hitting Dodgers in this best of seven series and the help needs to come from Utley and Howard. If those two get it going at the plate then this team might be the National League’s representative in the 2008 World Series.
