Phillies Offer Arbitration to No One

Published by Jim Vassallo at 8:45 pm under General Baseball, News and Notes Edit This

The Phillies had until midnight Monday to offer the four of their free agents arbitration but chose not to offer any of them arbitration.

It would have made sense to offer at least outfielder Pat Burrell arbitration since it looks like he will be leaving Philadelphia but the team was worried he would accept.

Burrell wouldn’t accept a one year deal when he can get three or four years elsewhere.

The Phillies did not offer Tom Gordon or Rudy Seanez arbitration because they do not want either of them back for the 2009 season and didn’t want them tro accept the offer.

Jamie Moyer, who seems likely to sign with the Phillies, was not offered arbitration because the Phillies feel they can get a better contract negotiating with Jamie than through arbitration.
