Nomar and Kapler on Phillies Radar
Nomar Garciaparra and Gape Kapler are receiving interest from the 2008 World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies.
The Phillies would like to add a right handed bat off the bench for the 2009 season since their bench already includes left handed hitters Geoff Jenkins, Matt Stairs, and Greg Dobbs.
If Nomar or Kapler do sign with the Phillies then it might mean the end of the road for reserve infielder Eric Bruntlett.
Garciaparra has played for the Boston Red Sox, the Chicago Cubs, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kapler recently played for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008.
Kapler hit .301 with eight homeruns 38 RBIs. Kapler plays all three outfield positions. Garciaparra can play first base and shortstop on a regular basis.
Garciaparra has also spent some time at third base and second base; two positions the Phillies need help with at the start of the season because of surgery to Chase Utley and Pedro Feliz in the off-season.
Garciaparra played one game at second base in 1996 and has played 88 games at third base in his career. That lone game at second base in 1996 is the only game he has played at second base in his career.
