More Callups

The Phillies added three more players following Monday’s loss to the Washington Nationals.

With these three September callups, the Phillies now have added seven players to their Major League roster for the stretch run.

The three added on Monday have all spent time in Philadelphia this season.

They are infielders Andy Tracy and Mike Cervenak and left handed pitcher Les Walrond. The Phillies now have four left handed pitchers in their bullpen. That should be enough arms to spell J.C. Romero and Scott Eyre for the rest of the season.

In other news, newly acquired infielder/outfielder Matt Stairs made his Phillies debut on Monday, starting in right field.

Jayson Werth was moved to left field to spell the struggling Pat Burrell for one day.

Burrell was back in the lineup on Tuesday night against the Nationals and left hander John Lannan.

Odds and Ends

The Phillies lost a tough one to the Mets Wednesday after such a hard fought victory on Tuesday night.

Leading 3-2 in the eighth their vaunted bullpen imploded, allowing 4 runs, enabling the Mets to win 6-3 and regain first place by .5 games.

Rudy Seanez took the loss. He got the first two outs of the inning then allowed a game tying homerun to Carlos Delgado, his second of the game and 30th of the season.

The Phillies were up 3-1 on starter Johan Santana but after the two homeruns they hit the club stopped scoring and couldn’t get anything off one of the ugliest bullpens in the league.

The Phils open up a four game set with the Cubs at Wrigley Field tonight. Cole Hamels takes on Ryan Dempster at 8pm eastern time. Continue Reading »
